Maddy’s mezuzah was ripped off and stolen from her doorpost. Maddy immediately reached out to the StandWithUs Legal Department for guidance. After filing a police report and identifying the perpetrator, she was faced with the tough decision of how to proceed. Instead of taking it to the criminal justice system, she remembered the StandWithUs mantra “education is the path to peace” and she resorted to educational rehabilitation. She met with the perpetrator himself and asked if he would be willing to take a guided tour of the local Holocaust Museum, compensate her for the stolen mezuzah, as well as a written reflection after his tour. He agreed, and eventually went on his tour.
